Our Objectives
Our Objectives
The Black Sea House Association (BSH) was established in July 2017, in Constanta, Romania, as a think-tank for political analysis and prediction in the Wider Black Sea area – the only Romanian geopolitical think tank that operates on the Black Sea coast.
BSH is a non-governmental, nonprofit policy research organisation. It is dedicated to providing strategic insights and policy solutions. Its goal is to help decision-makers in Black Sea countries strengthen mutual trust, stability, and security. BSH focuses on geopolitical and strategic issues and has four main areas of activity: research, organising events and meetings, publishing, and training.
BSH was founded and is led by Mr Dorin Popescu, a former Romanian diplomat.
The Association serves as a geopolitical think tank on public policy in the Wider Black Sea region and as a catalyst for projects that strengthen interethnic and interreligious dialogue in this region.
The Wider Black Sea region is the main point of interest for BSH. Our Association aims to increase dialogue and cooperation in this region. Our main objectives are: (1) to facilitate informed discussion of the main challenges and opportunities facing the region; and (2) to establish platforms that promote communication and collaboration among officials and experts from all countries in the region - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Republic of Moldova, Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, and other EU member states active in the Wider Black Sea area.
Other objectives include promoting and supporting public policies at national and regional levels, as well as throughout the Wider Black Sea area. We achieve this through thematic projects and initiatives. We also carry out geopolitical studies and analyses for the region, which are useful to the local community and administration. We strive to protect the area's cultural heritage and uniqueness. Furthermore, we aim to foster a proactive local cultural community and to stimulate interreligious dialogue.
BSH is a research organisation and a scientific platform for sectoral studies in the following areas: international relations, foreign policy and security studies, European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and regional sciences (the wider Black Sea region). BSH is dedicated to analysing the foreign policy and national security challenges facing Romania and other Black Sea countries. It seeks to educate the public, teachers, and students and to offer ideas to advance Romania's national interests from a nonpartisan, geopolitical perspective.
The Association is aimed at experts, diplomats, academics, and students interested in international relations and foreign policy, particularly in the Wider Black Sea area.
BSH publishes periodic independent analyses, transcripts of selected events, and multimedia content. BSH aims to edit monographs, papers, and articles and to organise various conferences and workshops. Our Association is involved in searching for relevant grants and executing research projects. BSH maintains a relationship with a number of professional partner organisations.
BSH’s Internship Program is designed to give interns first-hand experience working at a geopolitical think tank. BSH seeks to provide a mutually beneficial experience by giving the intern the opportunity to work alongside a supervisor in their chosen field in our office. Undergraduate and graduate students of all levels of experience are welcome to apply.
BSH encourages the active participation of young people from the Dobrudja region (generally from Romania) in developing and implementing projects that can strengthen Dobrudja's and Romania's geopolitical and cultural profile at the regional and international levels.
